The New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile underwent a successful flight test from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The flight test was carried out at very low altitude against a fast-moving unmanned aerial target. The weapon system successfully intercepted and destroyed the target during the flight test. The entire weapon system, which includes the missile with the locally designed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control, and Communication system, has been verified to be operational. Modern missile systems like the AKASH-NG system can intercept swift and agile aircraft threats. The user trials are now possible because of the successful flying test.

Regarding the flight test, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has expressed gratitude to the IAF, PSUs, DRDO, and industry. He claimed that if the system is developed successfully, the nation’s air defence capabilities will be substantially strengthened.
