Assam:As required by Section 8A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Election Commission of India has decided to begin the process of delineating Assembly and parliamentary districts in the State of Assam. The Chief Electoral Officer of Assam was given the order by the Commission, which was headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, to approach the State government about issuing a complete ban on the creation of new administrative units beginning on January 1, 2023, and lasting until the State’s delimitation exercise is complete.

The 2001 Census data will be utilised to alter the State’s Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies. For the purpose of defining the constituencies, the Commission will develop and then finalise its own standards and procedures.

After the Commission has finalised a draught proposal for the delineation of constituencies in the State of Assam, it will be published in the Central and State Gazettes to solicit comments and objections from the general public. Additionally, a notice detailing the time and location of public sittings to be held in the State will be published in two vernacular newspapers of the State.
