The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has added 37 new products to the Simplified Certification system (SCS) through the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC). It is now operational. This will facilitate business operations and cut the certification process from eight weeks to two weeks. Media gateways, IP security devices, IP terminals, optical fibre or cable, transmission terminal equipment, etc. are some examples of these items. The overall number of items under SCS has increased from twelve to forty-nine.

Regardless of the GCS and SCS categories, the TEC will only impose an administrative fee for applications based on Essential Requirement ER that are submitted under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment MTCTE.

There is no longer any need to pay the evaluation charge. For the original equipment manufacturer or applicants, this is a significant relief because it reduces the application fee by more than 80% and lessens the burden of compliance.
