Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that cutting-edge analytics and artificial intelligence are enhancing tax governance and reducing tax evasion. This increases the taxpayer’s confidence in the system, which promotes higher levels of tax compliance. At today’s National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur, Mr. Dhankar was speaking at the last Induction Training session for the 76th batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS). On this occasion, Nitin Gupta, the Chairman of the Central Board of Taxation (CBDT), and Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Maharashtra, were present.

The Vice President noted that we have transitioned from a primarily traditional, paper-based system to a modern, technology-driven ecosystem where information is easily accessible and processes are streamlined for the benefit of both authorities and taxpayers. The Vice President was emphasizing the role that modern technology plays in the administration of taxes. There has already been a paradigm change from territorial jurisdiction to dynamic jurisdiction thanks to the Faceless e-assessment system. In order to maintain accountability and openness, it has instituted anonymity in income tax assessments and appeals.

The Income Tax Department’s 76th batch of IRS officers consists of 58 officers, 24 of them are female officers, or 41% of the total batch strength. In addition to receiving intensive 16 months of training in tax administration and transfer pricing, these officers also receive on-the-job training in the various Income Tax Department verticals. On this particular occasion, the vice president extended support to the 76th batch of officer trainees in recognition of their outstanding achievements in a range of topics, including advanced accounting, business law, governance, and Rajbhasha. Sunita Meena, an office trainee, took home three gold medals for her deserving results in a variety of courses in addition to the prize for best performance in this cohort.
