Goa: The 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa will feature films with a focus on children’s rights thanks to a partnership between UNICEF and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). For the first time, IFFI has a dedicated section for movies that focus on concerns and rights pertaining to kids and teenagers.

Over the course of the festival’s nine days, six films that NFDC and UNICEF mutually selected will be exhibited. These movies present actual problems that kids actually encounter and promote respect for kids’ rights. The dynamic influences that form childhood and its socioeconomic environments will also be discussed in these movies. They include the Nagesh Kukunoor-directed film “Dhanak,” which tells the story of a young girl’s quest to help her blind brother. Another movie by Akashaditya Lama, “Nani Tere Morni,” is based on a true account of a young girl who conquered her fear and saved her grandma from drowning.

Amol Gole’s film “Sumi” is a positive and motivational tale of a 12-year-old girl from a poor family who longs to ride her bicycle to school, which is located far from her home village. The friendship of two 8-year-old children is portrayed in the Bengali film “Two Friends,” which was directed by Prasun Chatterjee, at a period when religious division was at its worst following a tragic event.
