New Delhi: The government will set up Grievance Appellate Committees within three months to handle complaints from social media users. The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 were amended in this regard by a gazette notification released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called it a move in the direction of giving people more authority, stressing that the protection of online users is the main concern. A Grievance Appellate Committee, according to him, has been established to hear appeals against the decisions of the Grievance Officer chosen by the middleman.

He stated that the intermediary’s privacy policies and user agreements would be made available in the languages listed in Eighth Schedule Indian. Intermediary, according to Mr. Vaishnaw, will ensure that all users may access its services and that their rights under the Indian Constitution are respected because that document is the ultimate law of the land.
