New Delhi: Piyush Goyal, the minister of commerce and food for the union, has made it clear that the government’s position on rice exports won’t change for the time being. He stated that in order to serve the nation’s 80 crore hungry people, more than 100 million tonnes of foodgrains must be produced annually. The minister claimed that each person receives 10 kg of rice or wheat every month through the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana.

In Hyderabad, the minister spoke with representatives of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI). According to him, there is concern that this time’s severe rains may cause foodgrain production in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to decline. The procurement season is currently under progress, he claimed, therefore this has not yet been confirmed.

Mr. Goyal invited the FTCCI members to work with him as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Panch Praan initiative to make India a developed nation by 2047. The minister emphasised their shared responsibility in this area and urged them to foster product marketing and look out for one another in order to make the Make in India programme a success.
