New Delhi: According to the most recent demographic sample census by the union home ministry, Jharkhand, a state notorious for witchcraft executions, has earned the bad reputation of having the highest percentage of teenage females being married.
The survey conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner found that 5.8 percent of girls in Jharkhand get married before reaching majority. According to the survey, “the percentage of girls who successfully married before turning 18 is 1.9 at the national level and varies from 0.0 in Kerala to 5.8 in Jharkhand.”
