Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal stated that the government is doing everything possible to safeguard the interests of farmers who grow onions. In order to safeguard the clients, he claimed that attempts had also been taken to lower the rising prices of onions.

According to Mr. Goyal, who briefed the media in New Delhi today, three lakh metric tonnes of onions have already been purchased, and the procedure to purchase an additional two lakh metric tonnes has already begun. He stated that if the need arises in the upcoming days, another two lakh metric tonnes will be purchased. According to him, onion is being purchased for a cost of 2,410 rupees per quintal. The Minister exhorted the farmers to accept this price for their harvest.

According to the Minister, NCCF’s mobile vans and retail locations offer onions to clients at a discounted price of 25 rupees per kilogramme. According to him, government initiatives contributed to a drop in tomato prices across the board.
