New Delhi: The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill, 2022 has been brought up for discussion and adoption in the Lok Sabha. On December 9, 2022, the bill was introduced in Lok Sabha. With regard to its application to Himachal Pradesh, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, is being modified by the proposed bill. In states and union territories, the Order identifies the tribal groups that are considered to be Scheduled Tribes.

The Hattee community in Sirmour district’s Trans Giri neighbourhood is listed as a Scheduled Tribe in the Bill. Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, a Congress member from Koraput, introduced the bill’s discussion by bringing up the issues facing tribal people and arguing for more remuneration for development projects carried out in tribal areas.
