New Delhi: To commemorate World Toilet Day, a “Swachhta Run” will be held in rural India by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation as part of the Grameen Swachh Bharat Mission. Making the Invisible Visible is the topic for World Toilet Day this year.

States and union territories are required by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to hold the Swachhta Run at the Gram Panchayat level with participation from local heroes, Swachhagraha activists, ASHA employees, volunteers, young people, schoolchildren, and regional folk artists.

According to the Ministry, to encourage locals to participate in the Run, local elected officials, athletes, and other influential locals will lead the Run’s start. Since 2013, a day dedicated to raising awareness for those without access to sanitation has been commemorated yearly.
