Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram marked the start of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly’s nine-day session today. The opposition commotion over the purported back-door appointments in the state, however, caused the assembly to adjourn for the day.

The state government, according to the opposition, circumvented the public service commission and job exchange by making unauthorised temporary appointments. M.B. Rajesh, the minister for local self-government, responded that the opposition parties were waging a deceptive campaign against the government and that any claims of back-door appointments were untrue in every way.

In the past six and a half years, the Left Government has appointed more than 1.99 lakh people through the Public Service Commission, the minister continued. The session, which is set to last from December 5 to December 15, will see the introduction of numerous significant laws. In the current session, it is also anticipated that the politically significant bill to appoint academic experts by dissolving the Governor’s role as chancellor of public universities will be introduced.
