Mahendragiri: The warship “Mahendragiri” was launched in Mumbai by Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, the wife of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The launch of Mahendragiri, according to Vice President Mr. Dhankar, is a critical turning point in our maritime history. The warship Mahendragiri, according to the vice president, is an engineering marvel with cutting-edge features. According to him, a significant 75% of the orders for the warship’s systems and equipment were placed with domestic companies, especially MSMEs, in keeping with the nation’s unwavering dedication to “Aatma Nirbharata.”

The Vice President added that the warship’s launch sends a strong signal that India will keep bolstering its maritime capabilities. The name of the battleship refers to a mountain peak in the Orissan state’s Eastern Ghats. It is the seventh and last Nilgiri-class stealth frigate battleship to be constructed as part of Project 17A.

The ship was created by Warship Design Bureau, an internal design team for the Indian Navy. It was constructed using the parallel outfitting and hull blocks method of integrated construction. Mahendragiri’s keel was laid on June 28 of last year, and delivery is anticipated in February 2026. The ship is being lowered into the water with a launch weight of about 3450 tonnes.
