Kottayam : The Kottayam district’s Aarppookkara, Vechoor, and Neendoor areas have been found to have the highly virulent H5N1 avian influenza virus in Kerala.
After several household birds were discovered dead in these areas, the virus’ presence was confirmed. Samples were then submitted to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal for testing. More than 7000 birds will be killed within a one-kilometer radius of the effected area, according to district authorities.
In the Kottayam, Vaikom, and Eattumanoor municipalities and surrounding 12 gramme panchayats, the transportation and sale of eggs, meat, and bird droppings have been outlawed until Monday.
