India’s first hydrogen fuel cell catamaran yacht will be built at Cochin Shipyard in Varanasi.

New Delhi: The Inland Waterways Authority of India and Cochin Shipyard have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh, the nation’s first hydrogen fuel cell catamaran vessel. Another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed by the Shipyard for the construction of two electric catamaran vessels for Guwahati and six for Uttar Pradesh.

The MoU was signed in Varanasi in the presence of a number of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Heavy Industry Mahendra Nath Pandey, and many others.

The Cochin Shipyard announced in a statement that the air-conditioned hydrogen fuel cell catamaran sailboat will accommodate 100 people. After testing and evaluation in Kochi, it will be put into use in Varanasi.
