Higher Education Institutions Are Told by UGC to Inform Students About the Toll-Free Mental Health Helpline

The University Grants Commission has mandated that all postsecondary educational establishments inform their student body about the existence of a free mental health hotline. The commission stated that while the Health Ministry’s Tele-MANAS mental health helpline has done very well since its introduction, it still has to be made more widely known. The circular was sent to all vice-chancellors of universities and principals of all colleges. The commission asked universities to promote the Tele MANAS hotline widely, emphasizing that it is free and open around-the-clock.

On World Mental Health Day in 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced the Tele Mental Health Assurance and Networking (Tele MANAS) program. The objective of this effort is to offer continuous support and aid to individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
