New Delhi: In New Delhi, the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal witnessed the signing of a concession deal between the Deendayal Port Authority and DP World. The project entails the public-private partnership-funded building of a mega-container port at Tuna-Tekra close to the current Deendayal Port. When finished, the terminal will be able to handle next-generation boats carrying more than 18,000 TEUs and have an annual capacity of 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). It will also have a 1,100-meter dock. This concession deal is a component of Mr. Sonowal’s goal to find investment opportunities of more than 10 lakh crore rupees in the Indian maritime sector before the Global Maritime Summit in 2023.
