China: Numerous major cities, including China’s capital Beijing and financial centre Shanghai, have seen protests against the country’s severe COvid restrictions and ongoing lockdowns. On Friday night, hundreds of protesters gathered in the Chinese capital Beijing, and on Saturday night, protests continued in Shanghai. They chanted anti-government chants and demanded an end to COVID lockdowns.

China recorded 40,347 new COVID-19 infections for the sixth consecutive day, 3,822 of which were symptomatic, according to the National Health Commission. This contrasts with 39,791 new cases and 3,709 symptomatic cases a day earlier. Beijing, the capital of China, recorded about 3900 cases with 840 symptomatic cases on Monday, down from more than 4300 the day before.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in the Chaoyang district, in the centre of Beijing, late last night to participate in the protest while holding blank pieces of paper to express their displeasure and acknowledge the censorship, in an unprecedented show of unity against the COVID restrictions, which are now in their third year.
