Rear Admiral Antony George, NM, VSM Chief of Staff, HQSNC visited Lakshadweep Islands from 10-12 Dec 21. The Flag Officer arrived Agatti Island on 10 Dec 21 and was received by the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Lakshadweep). As part of the visit, the Flag Officer reviewed progress of infrastructure works and security apparatus of various naval units in Lakshadweep .
During his visit, the Flag Officer inspected proposed site for construction of aviation support facilities for naval aircraft operations at Agatti island, upcoming civil-military air field at Minicoy, satellite data centre at Kavaratti and berthing facilities at Androth.
Towards increasing the naval foot print in the islands , a new detachment is being established at Bitra island. A thorough surveillance and monitoring of the strategic group of Lakshadweep islands is being maintained by Southern Naval Command in close coordination with other security agencies and UTL administration.
