Srinagar: The coldest night of the season was reported in Srinagar and other areas on December 21, the first day of the Kashmir Valley’s “Chilla-i-Kalaan,” a forty-day period of the worst winter. The Chillai Kalaan, Chillai Khurd, and Chillai Bache are the three names for the three most harsh winter months of Kashmir.
The chilliest forty days of winter, known as “Chillai Kalaan,” start on December 21 and last until January 31 of the following year. The weather in Kashmir is still dry and chilly during this time, with minimum temperatures consistently below freezing.
The coldest night of the season was recorded in the nation’s capital, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. It was minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
