Thiruvananthapuram: The largest gathering of women in the world is going to take place in Kerala’s capital city of Thiruvananthapuram for the “Attukal Pongala.” With 2.5 million participants, the event entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2009 as the greatest religious assembly of women on a single day.
The “women’s Sabarimala” is another name for the Attukal temple. For their family’s peace and prosperity, millions of women cook the Pongala in honor of their beloved deity, Attukal Bhagavathy. Devotees in “Pongala” cook a mixture of rice, jaggery, and scraped coconut in pots on improvised brick stoves. As a growing number of followers arrive in the nation’s capital, the authorities have put intricate plans in place, including stringent adherence to green procedure, security measures, and limitations on traffic. Attukal Pongala is not only a beloved custom but also a symbol of harmony, faith, and group devotion since the surrounding churches, temples, and mosques all assist with the ceremony each year.
