Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has authorised a proposal to start a Group (Term) Insurance Scheme for Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs) engaged by Border Roads Organisation or General Reserve Engineer Force for the ongoing project activities. The next of kin or family of CPLs will receive an insured value of 10 lakh rupees under this policy in the event of any form of death.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the scheme was implemented with consideration for the serious risks to the lives of CPLs assigned to dangerous work locations, bad weather, unfriendly terrain, and occupational health hazards. It also took into account the deaths that happened or were reported during their engagement. It was said that providing insurance for humanitarian purposes will greatly raise the CPLs’ morale.

This programme would provide social security and welfare benefits to CPLs who work in rural and distant regions of the country. The statement went on to say that it will significantly contribute to their families’ financial security. Raksha Mantri recently approved numerous welfare initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the poor and marginalised women. Enhancement of Funeral Assistance from one thousand to ten thousand rupees, advance payment against ex-gratia compensation of fifty thousand rupees as immediate help in case of death, and preservation and transportation of mortal remains along with the attendant’s entitlement to a transport allowance are among them.
