New Delhi: Government officials have denied media accusations that Covaxin’s regulatory approval was hurried because of political pressure. According to the sources, political pressure forced Bharat Biotech, the company that makes the locally produced COVID-19 vaccine known as Covaxin, to expedite clinical studies and skip several steps. According to the Union Health Ministry, these media reports are totally false, illogical, and misinformed.

The Ministry claimed that in licencing COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use permission, the national regulator, Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSO), used a scientific method and established standards. According to the statement, the national regulator only authorised the COVID-19 vaccinations for limited usage in emergency situations upon the advice of the CDSCO Subject Expert Committee.
