New Delhi: The Delhi High Court declared today that the mother has the last say in pregnancies involving foetal abnormalities and emphasised that medical boards in these situations must produce high-quality findings.

This was stated in a judgement by the High Court, which granted a 26-year-old married woman’s request for a medical abortion of her over 33-week-old foetus with neurological abnormalities.

As per the High Court, the medical board must analyse the woman’s physical and mental health and engage in friendly conversation with her. It was said that the opinion should provide a brief statement of the dangers to the lady of either choosing to carry the pregnancy to term or having it terminated. A woman now has the freedom to decide whether or not to give birth to the kid she has conceived.
