New Delhi: In response to the Taliban’s plan to close all female-only schools in Afghanistan above the sixth grade, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has voiced its concern. The Taliban allegedly forbade women and girls from attending universities, according to the UNSC, which expressed its grave alarm at this information. Afghanistan’s women and girls are expected to participate fully, equally, and meaningfully, according to the UNSC.

The Security Council urged the Taliban to quickly end these policies and practises, which amount to a steadily eroding of the people’s basic rights in the nation, and to reopen schools. Female staff members of NGOs and foreign organisations are reportedly prohibited by the Taliban from reporting to work. According to the UNSC, the action would have a significant and immediate impact on the nation’s humanitarian efforts.
