‘Swachh Mandir’ (Clean Temple) is a nationwide programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clean up pilgrimage sites. In anticipation of the forthcoming January 22 consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Modi initiated the campaign. PM Modi urged people to get together in an Instagram video to make Ayodhya the cleanest city in India.

He called on everyone in the country to begin a nationwide cleaning drive at minor pilgrimage sites on January 14 and carry it through January 22. Prime Minister Modi addressed the people of Ayodhya, saying that since travellers from all over the country would now be frequenting the city, it would be beneficial for the people of Ayodhya to make a commitment to make Ramnagari the cleanest city in India.

PM Modi emphasised that the programme is inclusive and that no temple or pilgrimage destination should be left messy when Lord Ram comes. He emphasised that Lord Ram belongs to everyone. To guarantee the cleaning drive’s success, all elected officials including MPs, MLAs, and panchayat representatives will be involved in the effort.
