Maharashtra : The Maharashtra government issued a Government Resolution (GR) requiring all workers in government and government-funded organisations to use the greeting “Vande Mataram” instead of “hello” when taking phone calls from residents or government officials.

According to the General Order (GR) issued by the General Administration Department, representatives should encourage anyone they meet to greet them with Vande Mataram does not evoke any affection.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, a minister for Maharashtra, first suggested this idea shortly after taking office. Later, he changed his mind and indicated that any comparable term indicating nationalism might be used.
