Roles and Responsibilities
With a vulnerable population highly dependent on agriculture and natural ecosystems that are undergoing rapid change, India is on the frontline of climate impacts, enhancing the urgency and the need for immediate climate resilience building action. At the same time, with rapid economic growth and development, carbon emissions are increasing, necessitating mitigation action. While climate change coupled with rapid development is causing myriad problems, it also presents a unique opportunity to move towards a low carbon development pathway. As one of the largest conservation organizations in the country, WWF-India seeks to leverage these opportunities and address these challenges both through enhancing biodiversity conservation, and reducing humanity’s environmental footprint.
WWF-India has several programmes working on enhancing biodiversity conservation, while reducing the ecological footprint of human activities. A new flagship Initiative, the Climate, Energy & Nature Initiative (CENI) is looking to reduce climate impacts while enhancing the resilience of fragile ecosystems and vulnerable people. This initiative which has a crosscutting programmatic approach aims to enhance the uptake of Renewable Energy in the rural spectrum while enhancing low carbon economic development and strengthening climate resilience through a portfolio of Nature based Solutions.
WWF India is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to lead and manage this flagship programme, by working with government departments, policy makers, communities and industries for embedding successful strategies for wider scale up and deeper uptake. The Programme Manager is expected to play a crucial role in WWF’s efforts to achieve the larger goal of enhanced conservation. The position requires a combination of technical and management expertise, to navigate through different programmes within WWF India and manage this large five-year programme to successful delivery of ambitious targets.

Job Profile:
- Work closely with cross-cutting Programme Heads within WWF India to manage the complex, multi-faceted programme on energy, climate and nature.
- Manage the core programme team and co-ordinate with HoDs for the delivery of different components of the programme.
- Manage discussions with key stakeholders to facilitate mainstreaming of climate change adaptation in policies and plans as required.
- Collaborate with teams working on the umbrella project, and monitor reporting and deliverables schedule.
- Strengthen networking and build collaborations with relevant stakeholders, including research institutions working in this domain.
- Act as the focal person to coordinate with the key project donors, WWF International network on the umbrella project.
- Work closely with the other teams across WWF India and build synergies and enable embedding of climate informed programme planning and development of climate informed conservation strategies.
- Manage technical expertise involved in delivering on the project with inclusivity.
- Manage the finance, forecasting, budgeting and reporting of the umbrella project (comprising of 4 components on renewable energy and nature based solutions), delivered by cross cutting teams within WWF.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience after completion of a higher degree is required. Those with multiple qualification or specific / highly relevant experience in Programme Management and with Climate change mitigation and adaptation could be considered with less than 10 years of work experience.
- Proven project and people management skills, including ability to work and manage highly qualified technical experts
- Established expertise in planning, executing and reporting large multi-dimensional projects.
- Good communication and influencing skills, capacity to network and engage with government on policy and advocacy
- Ability to multi-task and work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
- Experience of working with multiple stakeholders in the development sector, social focus on Natural resources will be an added advantage
- Prior experience of programme development and establishing a new vertical or programme within an organization.
- Proven experience in managing community based, social impact projects including managing conflicts
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting and managing large funds
- Willingness to travel to attend meetings with key corporate partners in and outside India.
