New Delhi: The government announced on Wednesday that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), also known as the free ration programme, had been extended for the upcoming three months. The Central Cabinet has resolved to extend the PMGKAY plan for the upcoming three months, according to Union Minister Anurag Thakur.

About 80 million individuals enrolled by the National Food Security Act will receive free 5 kg of food grains per person per month through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which was inaugurated in March 2020. To lessen the difficulty of the recipients during the lockdown period that was imposed owing to the then-raging coronavirus, the free ration programme was launched. This was in addition to the NFSA’s general allotment.

The free ration programme had a 30 September expiration date prior to its extension. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will now remain in effect through December 31 thanks to the Central Government’s extension of the programme.
