New Delhi: Smriti Irani the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, claimed that Nirbhaya Fund had assisted the government in setting up more than a thousand fast track courts around the nation.

She claimed that more than 300 of the total number of fast-track courts are devoted to the cause of children and the POCSO Act while speaking to an audience of stakeholders at a conference on the POCSO Act in New Delhi.

The Minister stated that POCSO cases are resolved on average in 509 days and that there are three acquittals for every conviction. She explained that this indicates the current system for handling these instances still requires strong interventions. The Minister further stated that the government places a high priority on the victim child’s mental health.
