Oil production has begun at the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)’s biggest deep-sea project in the Bay of Bengal’s Krishna Godavari basin. From the KG-DWN-98/2 block, ONGC has begun to produce from the Cluster-2 project and will gradually increase output. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated on social media that the first oil production starts from a challenging and complex block.Over 10 million standard cubic metres of petrol and 40,000 barrels of oil per day are anticipated to be produced, according to Mr Puri. In terms of natural gas output, the project is predicted to increase current national production by 7% and oil production by 7%. It is located in the Bay of Bengal, offshore the Godavari river delta. In ocean depths between 300 and 3,200 metres, it is situated 35 kilometres off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. Three clusters, Clusters 1 through Cluster 3, comprise the discoveries in the block. Initial production of Cluster 2 is underway.
