Maharashtra: The Maharashtra legislative assembly today passed the Lokayukt Bill, a significant milestone that expands the scope of the office to include the Chief Minister, Ministers, and People’s representatives.
Without debate or the participation of lawmakers from the opposition parties, the Bill that was introduced in the lower house on the 26th of this month was passed today. The Prohibition of Corruption Act section in the bill, which would replace the Lokayukt Act of 1971, will be implemented.
Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister, commented on the bill and noted that although the Prohibition of Corruption Act contains a provision, specific criteria must be met in order to file a complaint against the elected officials.Maharashtra has now passed the Lokayukt Act, making it the first state in the nation to pass it.
