Manipur: The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), a Manipur-based insurgent organisation, and the Center and Manipur government have signed a Cessation of Operation Agreement in New Delhi. ZUF had been operating for almost ten years. The action, overseen by Home Minister Amit Shah, carries out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of creating a “Insurgency free and affluent North East.”

This will give the peace process in Manipur a big boost. In the presence of State Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, the Manipur administration, and representatives of ZUF signed this agreement.

Armed Group representatives concurred to renounce violence and participate in the legal, peaceful democratic process. The agreement provides for the armed cadres’ rehabilitation and resettlement. In order to monitor the adherence to the established ground rules, a Joint Monitoring Group will be established.
