Jan Dhan accounts surpass the 50 crore mark, and 56% of them are held by women.

The 50 crore threshold has been reached for the overall number of Jan Dhan accounts. According to the Finance Ministry, of these accounts, 67% have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas, while 56% of accounts belong to women. More than Rs. 2 lakh crore has been deposited in these accounts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy that the Jan Dhan Accounts have reached the 50 crore mark, a momentous milestone. Mr. Modi also expressed his joy over the fact that women hold 56% of these accounts in a social media post. With 67% of accounts being established in rural and semi-urban areas, he claimed, the government is ensuring that the advantages of financial inclusion are felt throughout the whole country.

According to the Ministry, around 34 crore free RuPay cards have been distributed in these accounts. Over four thousand rupees is the average amount in Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts, while benefits from Direct Benefit Transfer are being received by more than five crore 50 lakh Jan Dhan accounts.
