Indian athletes place second at the 16th IOAA in Chorzów, Poland.

New Delhi: India placed second overall at the 16th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Chorzów, Poland, which took place from August 10 to 20, 2023, with four gold and one silver medal. With five Golds, the United Kingdom secured the lead.

The Olympiad featured 236 students from 50 different countries in all, and they combined won 27 gold, 41 silver, and 50 bronze medals across all categories. Gold medals were given to Rajdeep Mishra from Kota, Rajasthan, Koduru Tejeswar from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, Md. Sahil Akhtar from Kolkata, West Bengal, and Akarsh Raj Sahay from Nagpur, Maharashtra; a silver medal was given to Sainavaneet Mukund from Bangalore, Karnataka. Prof. Surhud More from IUCAA in Pune and Pritesh Ranadive from HBCSE-TIFR in Mumbai served as the team’s leaders.
