India facing danger of narco-terror: Amit Shah

India is facing the challenge of narco terrorism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday, adding that the government has decided to not let the country become its pathway.

“India is facing another danger: narco-terror. The Centre has decided that we will not let narcotics enter our country and not let India become its pathway. It is important to stop this,” Shah said, while inaugurating the Centre of Excellence for Research and Analysis of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances at National Forensic Sciences University in Gandhinagar.

The home minister said it was the second Narendra Modi government which decided to attach the centre to Gujarat’s Forensic Science University.

“I am confident that this university will extend to other states and youth will get the opportunity to contribute to forensic science. We are becoming self-reliant in cyber defense and bariatric research,” he said.

Emphasising the need to adopt scientific tools for quicker and efficient investigations, Shah forensic science would play a major role in organising the criminal justice system.

“This is not the era of the third degree. Our investigation should be based on scientific evidence,” the minister said.

According to NFSU website, the Centre of excellence for NDPS is a government organization established with a mission to diminish the drug of abuse cases and the total convictions in narcotic cases and to combat against the drug trafficking.

The centre will assist other government agencies to bridge the gap between different forensic science laboratories by developing the database of narcotic and psychotropic substances under one roof, it said.
