In an emotional post on Instagram, pop star Britney Spears slammed her father’s ‘control’ over what she wears or says, and said she has ‘quit’ live performances. She wrote: “I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think.”

She said she will share videos of herself dancing in a living room, rather than get on a stage in Las Vegas. Her anger is very evident in the long Instagram post where she said that the conservatorship has ruined her life. Spears has been in the news recently as she pleaded with a judge in Los Angeles to free her from the years-long conservatorship largely governed by her father, Jamie. The  #FreeBritney social media movement has also picked up pace with massive support from fans and celebs. “This conservatorship killed my dreams … so all I have is hope and hope is the only thing in this world that is very hard to kill … yet people still try,” she wrote in the post.

Reacting to documentaries about her, she wrote: “I didn’t like the way the documentaries bring up humiliating moments from the past … I’m way past all that and have been for a long time.”

In March, the New York Times documentary ‘Framing Britney Spears’, brough attention back on Spears and her controversial life. The highly-acclaimed documentary is about the iconic singer’s rise to fame, her mid-2000’s struggles, the highly-restrictive conservatorship under her father Jamie Spears, and the #FreeBritney social media movement that arose as a result. Spears had said that she “cried” for two weeks as she felt “embarrassed” by the light the documentary put her in.

The singer had also criticised the media for judging her whole life. “I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people!!! It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day.
