Digital India: Indian Railways promoting initiative in a big way

New Delhi: To facilitate the Digital India initiative through Indian Railways, digital transaction methods for purchasing groceries will be facilitated through catering units in railway stations, and 8878 static units will have the capability of digital payments. In addition, handheld PoS devices are provided to catering units to produce printed bills and invoices reflecting all details of transactions made and to handle overcharge complaints. 3081 POS devices are currently available on 596 trains. 4316 static units were equipped with his POS machines.
To offer more choice for train passengers, Indian Railways has introduced an electronic catering service. E-catering services are managed by IRCTC. Passengers can pre-order meals of their choice by calling the app/call center/website/1323 when booking an electronic ticket or during the train journey. The e-catering service is now available at 310 stations via 1,755 service providers and 14 food aggregators, serving an average of 41,844 meals per day.
