New Delhi: The Production Linked Incentive Scheme (Tranche II) on the “National Programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules” with an outlay of Rs. 19,500 crore has been approved by the Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This will enable the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy to reach Giga Watt (GW) scale manufacturing capacity in High Efficiency Solar PV Modules.
The national initiative on high efficiency solar PV modules seeks to create a manufacturing environment in India for high efficiency solar PV modules, hence reducing reliance on imports in the field of renewable energy. It will increase employment and support the Atamnirbhar Bharat initiative.
Manufacturers of solar PV systems will be chosen via a transparent selection procedure. PLI will be paid out for five years following the commissioning of solar PV manufacturing facilities when high efficiency solar PV module sales are encouraged on the domestic market.
The planned outcomes/benefits of the programme include the installation of solar PV modules that are fully and partially integrated at a manufacturing capacity of approximately 65,000 MW annually. Around Rs. 94,000 crore will be invested directly as a result of the scheme. building up the capacity to manufacture balance of materials such EVA, solar glass, backsheet, etc. Approximately 1,95,000 people are employed directly, while 7,80,000 people are employed indirectly. A replacement of about Rs.1.37 lakh crore in imports mpetus to Research and Development to improve Solar PV Module Efficiency.
