Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, on Wednesday, requested his fans and media to stop referring to him as ‘Thala’. In a note, he said he wished to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or AK henceforth.

“To the respected members of the media, public and genuine fans. I henceforth wish to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or just AK, and not as ‘Thala’ or any other prefix before my name. I sincerely wish you all a beautiful life filled with good health, happiness, success, peace of mind and contentment forever. Love, Ajith,” he wrote.

The actor’s fans had attached the moniker ‘Thala’ to his name for decades. The nickname has stuck to him since his 2001 hit Dheena. Earlier he had also requested fans to stop using the prefix ‘ultimate star’. In another statement in 2017, the actor clarified he does not have accounts on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram, and added that he does not endorse official fan clubs.

On the work front, Ajith will next be seen in Valimai, set to release on the occasion of Pongal in January. Produced by Boney Kapoor, Valimai is directed by H. Vinoth.
