Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala has created history once again by becoming the first state in India and possibly in the world to achieve complete digital literacy, marking a major milestone in its long journey of educational and social development. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Local Self Government and Excise Minister M. B. Rajesh.
As part of the ambitious project, over 21.87 lakh people across the state were trained in essential digital skills. Minister Rajesh emphasized that this achievement is unmatched globally, noting that while many countries have made strides in digital education, no other region has yet declared complete digital literacy at a state-wide level.
Kerala, which had earlier become the first state to achieve total literacy in 1991, has once again reaffirmed its position as a leader in social development. Officials said the achievement will help bridge the digital divide, ensure better access to e-governance, strengthen financial inclusion, and create new opportunities in education and employment.
The official declaration by CM Pinarayi Vijayan will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2025, at Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The event is expected to showcase Kerala’s digital success story as a model that could inspire other Indian states and developing regions worldwide.
“This is not the end, but the beginning of a new era,” the Chief Minister is expected to announce.
