Government Introduces PM E-DRIVE Program To Encourage Innovation in Electric Vehicles

The overall number of electric vehicle (EV) registrations in the country reached 1.59 lakh units in September, which is encouraging for EV adoption. In September of last year, it was 1.29 lakh units. The government’s VAHAN statistics indicates that there was a notable 23% increase in EV registrations (year-over-year). Compared to the same period last year, EV volumes climbed by 20% in the first half of the current fiscal year. When compared to the same period previous year, the total number of EV registrations across all categories increased to 8.93 lakh units from 7.45 lakh units.

In the meantime, the government unveiled the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) program yesterday. The two-year program will cost Rs 10,900 crore in funding. On September 11, the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the PM-Drive program to encourage electric transportation throughout the nation.

In order to create a cleaner and more sustainable future, the PM E-DRIVE program will be essential in hastening the adoption of EVs and constructing vital charging infrastructure across the country.
