A new initiative by the centre to promote research and innovation in the pharmaceutical and medical industries has a total budget of 5,000 crore rupees.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers has announced that the government will shortly introduce a new programme called PRIP (Promotion of Research and Innovation in the Pharma-Medical Sector) with a five thousand crore rupee total investment. This programme was approved by the Union Cabinet last month for a five-year term from 2023–2027.

He continued, “The PRIP Scheme’s goal is to shift the Indian Pharma and Medical Technology sector from cost-based competitiveness to innovation-based growth by bolstering the nation’s research infrastructure.”Out of the 5,000 crore rupees allocated for the programme, 700 crore rupees will be used to strengthen the research infrastructure at the seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research already in existence, which are spread out across Mohali, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. According to Dr. Mandaviya, the government’s main priorities are to boost drug manufacture, encourage research and innovation in the business, and foster the growth of the pharmaceutical industry nationwide.
