TRAI Announces Modifications To The Regulatory Framework For Cable and Broadcast Services

The regulatory framework for cable services and releases, as well as broadcasting, has undergone modifications notifies by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The cap on network capacity fees, which was set at 130 rupees for 200 channels and 160 rupees for more than 200 channels, has been lifted by TRAI. Now, market forces will determine the fee. The regulator stated that, in addition to reporting to it, service providers must legally publish all fees and notify customers of them in order to maintain transparency. These modifications aim to streamline regulatory requirements in order to facilitate the expansion of the broadcasting industry and to make conducting business easier.
