Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government has resolved to make all state-run health institutes offer free medical services and treatments to the public. Tanaji Sawant, the state Public Health Minister, announced the decision, which was unanimously agreed by the state Cabinet during its meeting yesterday.
Maharashtra’s public health department oversees 2,418 health institutions. Primary health care centres, rural hospitals, women’s hospitals, district civil hospitals, sub-district hospitals, super specialty hospitals, and cancer hospitals will be affected by the decision. According to the Cabinet note, Article 21 of the Constitution guarantees the right to health, and the state is responsible for ensuring that all medical services are provided to the people.
