Egypt: In a report released as the COP27 UN Climate Summit got underway in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) noted that each of the previous eight years had been hotter than any year before 2015. Our planet is in trouble as COP27 gets started, according to UN leader Antonio Guterres, who described the report as a chronicle of climate calamity. According to the paper, Earth’s temperature has increased by more than 1.1 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century, with over half of that rise taking place in the last 30 years.

The Paris Climate Agreement’s 1.5-degree warming goal is unlikely to be met given the atmosphere’s current carbon dioxide levels, according to WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas.

The WMO research states that since the decade started, sea levels have risen at a rate of 5 millimetres per year as opposed to 2.1 millimetres in the 1990s. The COP27 summit, held at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, is attended by more than 120 world leaders. Two weeks of negotiations on climate action will begin as a result.
