Seven Indian women boxers will compete in quarterfinal contests at the Asian Boxing Championships in Amman.

Jordan: Seven Indian women boxers, including bronze medallist Lovlina from the Tokyo Olympics, will begin their competition at the Asian Boxing Championships now taking place in Amman, Jordan.

It was scheduled for late last night that Ananta Chopade will compete against Tanaka Shogo of Japan in the 54 kg event’s pre-quarterfinal match and Etash Khan would compete against Khunatip Pudnich of Thailand in the 60 kg division’s Round of 16.

In his Round of 16 matches of the 67 kg (Welterweight) division yesterday, Indian boxer Amit Kumar defeated Chinese Taipei’s Zheng-Rong Huang by a score of 5-0 to proceed to the quarterfinal. In the quarterfinals, he will compete against Muydinkhujaev Asadkhuja of Uzbekistan.

Shiva Thapa, a five-time medalist at the Asian Championships, earlier proved his mettle in a tough victory and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Jordan.

In a hotly contested matchup in the 63.5kg pre-quarterfinal against Mongolia’s Byambatsogt Tuguldur, Thapa prevailed 3:2 by split decision.
