PV Sindhu advanced quickly to the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters women’s singles badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur this morning. In the quarterfinal, the two-time Olympic medallist overcame Han Yue of China 21-13, 14-21, 21-12.
But Ashmita Chaliha of India lost to Zhang Yi Man of China in another women’s singles quarterfinal, 10-21, 15-21.
India’s campaign has already concluded in the Round of 16 for other categories. In the Men’s Singles category, Kiran George was defeated by Zii Jia Lee of Malaysia; in the Men’s Doubles category, Sai Pratheek and Krishna Prasad Garaga similarly fell to Ren Xiangyu and Ji Ting He of China. In the women’s doubles, Taiwan’s Sung Shuo-yun and Chen Yu defeated Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand.
