Northeast has become the biggest success story in New India, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that during the past five years, investments in the region’s development have exceeded the sums allotted by the Congress administration by over four times. During a newspaper interview, Mr. Modi stated that the country’s Northeast was now connected to the rest of the nation thanks to the infrastructure development that has occurred over the past ten years. He announced the establishment of the nation’s first sports university in Manipur and the creation of more than 200 Khelo India centers spread throughout the eight states by the government.

Regarding the subject of insurgency, the prime minister declared that the government has successfully maintained peace and substantially curbed insurgency in the northeast. In the last ten years, 11 peace agreements, he added, had been struck. Since 2014, over 9,500 rebels have surrendered and integrated into society, according to Mr. Modi. The Prime Minister declared that the AFSPA had been removed from the majority of the Northeast due to the improved security situation.
