The conference in New Delhi to assess the performance of public sector banks on several factors is being chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The meeting is being attended by key authorities such as Dr. Vivek Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, and the chief executive officers and managing directors of Public Sector Banks.
Three key measures of the health of the banks—deposit growth, the credit-to-deposit ratio, and asset quality—will be reviewed by Ms. Sitharaman and the other attendees during the meeting.
The Finance Minister will also assess how public sector banks are performing in relation to government programs including the PM Awas Yojana, PM Surya Ghar, and PM Vishwakarma schemes. This is Ms. Sitharaman’s first review meeting with these institutions since taking over as the Modi 3.0 government’s Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs. The performance of regional rural banks will also be examined by Finance Minister Sitharaman in the evening.
